The Pottery Team

In January 2007 Dave, his wife, Lucy, and their young family moved back to the New Forest and set up Vinegar Hill Pottery in Milford on Sea. 25 years of throwing pots day in and day out, he is now truly a master of his craft, and has even developed the infamous potters nod as he works!

We now have 4 additional potters working at Vinegar Hill, making a great team. Between them they enable VHP to function as it does, as a working Pottery and pottery school, sharing the love of making pots with you!

Dave

Dave

Dave has 36 years if pottery expertise, 18 of them at Vinegar Hill, where he built VHP from the ground up. His work has been featured nationwide in galleries, niche restaurants, interior design studios, and even appearing as a demo on The Great British Pottery Throwdown. A hugely talented (and extremely patient) teacher, Dave is also the host of our weekly classes.

Deborah

Deborah

Deborah has an absolutely unlimited supply of design ideas and keeps our orders going out the door. She is a Kiln loading pro and manages most of our admin/office side as well as glazing and production pots. Deborah spent 7 years in New York as a knitwear designer, and now is an expert collagist on the side!

Julie

Julie

Julie is the studios secret weapon, bringing hard work, creativity, fantastic ideas, and constant optimism. A lover of all things Italian, Julie draws some of her excellent design inspiration from her time there. With expertise in cool retro interiors, she adds a unique flair to everything she does.

Emma

Emma

Emma is a talented designer and our resident decal expert. While she'd rather be sailing, she dedicates some of her time on dry land to us excelling at wood-fired kiln stoking, creating stunning stripes and beautiful seed head designs. She works closely with Dave on bespoke commissions and was the first to join Dave's team!

Roz

Roz

Roz is the newest member of our team and an excellent thrower on the potter’s wheel. She and Julie are the studio’s chief organisers, keeping everything running smoothly. Bringing her bundles of energy and beautiful smiles, Roz helps with setting up, cleaning up, glazing students' work, and loading the kiln.
